Girl with Balloon — Handcrafted Wood Block Interpretation of Banksy art

An iconic image reimagined in wood.

Inspired by Banksy’s Girl with Balloon, this handcrafted artwork transforms the familiar silhouette and red heart balloon into a dimensional composition created from individually cut and arranged wooden blocks.

Against a softly varied background of whites and warm neutrals, the dark silhouette of the girl reaches toward the rich red balloon. The raised and angled surfaces of the wooden blocks catch the light differently throughout the day, creating changing shadows, texture, and depth that cannot be achieved with a flat print.

Each piece is individually constructed and finished by hand in our studio in Sicily, Italy.

From a distance, the individual blocks come together to reveal the familiar image of a girl reaching toward a floating heart.

Move closer and the artwork changes.

Individual pieces of wood, subtle variations in height and direction, painted surfaces and shadows become visible. Light moves across the blocks throughout the day, giving the artwork a sculptural quality and making the piece look slightly different depending on where you stand.

Each piece is created by hand at Palazzo di Pietra Studio in Sicily, Italy, where recognizable imagery is translated into tactile, dimensional artwork using wood.

No two pieces will be completely identical. Small differences in wood grain, texture, block placement and finish are part of the character of a genuinely handmade artwork.
